October 31 through November 2 form Hallowtide — a sacred triduum spanning All Hallows' Eve, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day, when the whole family of God draws close: the faithful on earth, the saints in heaven, and the holy souls we carry in prayer. Vigilia — All Hallows' Eve. Latin for "vigil," because that's what this night truly is: the Church's watch before the feast. Apple, pear, and warm spice settle into vanilla and amber — the scent of a home with the porch light on and hearts awake.

Eternal Rest — All Souls Day. The Church's oldest prayer for her beloved dead. Cold bergamot air warms into white birch and toasted marshmallow, settling into embers, smoke, and cedarwood. The smoke rises like our prayers; the sweetness lingers like the ones we pray for.
